Tho Union Company's steamer Taiaroa, •138 tons, Capt. Parsons, from Dunodin and AVellington, steamed up to the anchorage at 9.30 a.m. this day, and was shortly afterwards tendered for mails and passengers by the Boojum, and by the Sir Donald for her cargo. The folloAving is a report of her passage, kindly furnished by Mr F. AVeber, her purser:— Left Port Chalmers on the loth at noon, and arrived at AVellington at 8 p.m. on the 16th; left again at 12.30 p.m. on the 17th, and anchored in tho roadstead as aboA'e. Experienced fine Aveathor with light variable Avinds to AVellington, theuco to arrival head wind with southerly Bwell. The outward mails and passengers will bo transhipped by the Boojum at 4 o'clock this afternoon, tho Taiaroa steaming for Gisborne, Tauranga, and Auckland shortly afterwards. The Wairoa bar having been reported by tho pilot last evening as improving, the p.s. Manaia took her departure at about 8 o'clock this morning, with a large cargo aud several passengers. The now receiving punt, which has just been constructed to the order of the. Harbor Board, was launched this morning, and moored at Watt's wharf. Tho steamer Maori, Captain Anderson, got away for AVairoa at 8 o'clock this morning, taking nine passengers and a full cargo. The Union steamer Omaperc, Captain Webster, sailed for Westport direct at 4.40 p.m. yesterday. (By Cable.) Albany, Tuesday. Tho P. and O. steamship Cathay, with tho inward Suez mails, dated London, Juno 15, arrived in King George's Sound this afternoon. [by telegraph.] Auckland, This day. The mail steamer Australia sailed at G o'clock last evening for San Francisco. Neav Plymouth, This day. Tho steamer Oreti is at present in KaAvhia harbor in distress. She left AVcllington for AVaiiganui, but not being able to enter that river wont on to Opunake, but Avas not able to land cargo. She then made for Waitara, hut could not enter oA\'ing to tho dangerous etato of the bar, so she boro aAvay for Kawhia in order to obtain shelter. In attempting to enter the harbor she bumped on tho bar, and, as it Avas afterwards found, she made a hole in her bottom. She has to remain there till relief is afforded her. The Hannah Mokau has been despatched Avith sniul, pump appliances, and five tons of coal to have repairs executed. Tho steamer McGregor which lias boon detained in tho AVaitara river eight days owing to a sand bank Avhich had formed and prevented her getting out, attempted to leavo this morning, and grounded on the south spit where she now lies. An attempt avus made to lighten her, but Avithout effect, and she nOAV lies on the spot the s.s. RoAvena grounded on years ago, and where sho AA'as £avo months before sho again floated. There is a lumpy sea on, and her position is critical. The New Plymouth harbor tug is lending hor every assistance.

The steamer Rowena, not being ablo to enter Waitara, came on to Ncav Plymouth to discharge her eartro this morning.
