MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
Tho Municipal Council sat in committee last night for the consideration of applications in connection with tho widening of Dickens and Emerson streets.
It was resolved, with reference to Emersonstreet, to recommend to tho Council that, if the promoters of the movement for widening the thoroughfare formed aud metalled it, ancl left it in a fit condition for traffic, the Corporation would contribute towards the work in proportion to tho value of tho land on which the Criterion Hotel stands, but not in proportion to the value of buildings and land.
With reference to Dickens-street it was decided to recommend the Council to undertake the work of widening it, provided the money for the work be lodged beforehand.
