ANGLICAN CHURCH GENERAL SYNOD.

Tito above Synorl resumed its sittings yesterday afternoon. A petition was received from twelve parishioners of Ricearton regretting- the abolition of the parish of Fendalton. Several new bills were read a first time. The Bishop of Auckland moved:—"That this Synod rejoices to hear of the encouraging progress of the work of the Melanesian Mission: and desires to express its cordial sympathy with the Right Reverend the Bishop and the other members of the mission staff in their labors, and its congratulations on the results of those labors."—On the suggestion of Archdeacon Harper the following words were added to the motion, which, with the alteration, was carried : —-"And that this Synod expresses its hope that churchmen throughout New Zealand will continue to give increased support to the mission both by their prayers and alms." The Rev. S. Williams moved,—" That this Synod approves of the action of the trustees of the Ilawke's Bay Trust in accepting town section N0.,18 instead of No. 10 in the exchange of land iv the township of Havolock." The report of the committee on reports of trustees was considered and adopted. The report of the committee to definer "licensed clergy" -was brought up and adopted. The next meeting of the Synod, it was resolved, should be held at Auckland, iv the lu>:f; week of January, ISBG. A discussion then ensued on the education question, which filled up the time till the C o'clock adjournment. At the evening sitting the Bishop of Dunediu moved, —"That the bill for empowering any Diocesan Synod to give consent on behalf of the General Synod, to applications for incorporation be read a second time and considered in committee." The bill was ordered to be read a second time after being printed. Archdeacon Harris moved, —"That the bill for establishing courts for the hearing and determining of matters relating to ecclesiastical offences be read a second time and ». made an order of the day and considered in y committee." The motion was agreed to,* and the Synod went into committee on the bill. On reporting progress Mr J. E. Parker moved, —"Fora select committee to enquire into and to report on the best means for liquidating the expenses incurred iv bringing the bill for Incorporation of Trustees before the Legislature. Committee to consist of the Bishop of Waiapu, the Dean of Christchurch, Mr Collins, Mr Cochrane, and the mover." The motion was agreed to, the name of Mr Quick beingsubstituted for that of the Bishop of Diuiedin, and the name of the Rev. S. Williams added. The Synod adjourned at 11 p.m.
