BERTHING ACCOMMODATION AT THE PORT.

[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] Sir, —Business having compelled me to visit the Alanapouri on Saturday evening, I aA-ailed myself of the opportunity of returning by the Sir Donald at a later period than the company's launch left the ship, but I Avas rather surprised on arrival at the breastAvork to find that there was no berth for us, the Avhole of such space being taken np by three vessels. After a good deal of backing and filling Captain Quinlan succeeded in making fast alongside the Bella, thus making the third vessel from the Avharf. Being rather old and feeble, I had to climb OA'er the inside tAA*o to the shore Avith the kind assistance of some young- man Avho seemed to belong to the steamer, and to AA*hom I feel A*ery grateful. Now, Sir, if the harbor master only heard the prayers he got, both loud and deep, I am quite sure that hereafter ho Avould exercise his authority and make vessels close up at the Avharf, and not let it happen again as on Saturday night Avith only a steamer, a schooner, and the punts taking up the Avliole of the Avharf berths from abreast C. Shed to F. AY. AVilliams' store. The punts should be taken nearer the bridge, and out of the Avay of loaded steamers navigating the harbor at night. Hoping that some member of the Harbor Beard AA'ill take this matter up,—l am, kc, Ancient Alarinee. Port Ahuriri, April 2, 1883.
