SUICIDE OF AN ACTRESS.

The Capetown papers of the 27th June contain an account of the suicide of Mrs Fulton, known professionally as Miss Sally d'Angelis, a member of the Loftus Troupe, which appeared in Napier some time ago. It appears that she discharged a pistol into her side. The reason for the suicide is thus given in the Cape Times: — " One evening in the week before the suicide she and her husband, who is also a member of the Loftus Troupe, retired to their room as usual, but early in the morning she dressed and made some excuse for going downstairs, but not returning, inquiries were made, and it was ascertained that she had left the house in company with another member of the troupe named Butler. The police were communicated with, and a. couple of men in plain clothes were sent in sea/rch of the missing couple, who it would seem had, in accordance with a pre-arranged plan, driven to the docks ;nid endeavored to take passage in the steamer Sue , /, bound for Australia. The captain, however, refused to take them, as they were unable at the moment to pay their expenses. They then requested the boatman who had taken them olf to the steamer to land them on the I'laauwberg beach, but owing to the heavy surf this could not be done, and eventually they were landed at the Central Wharf, together with the luggage thoy had taken with them. Later in the day Mis,s d'Angelis was found in Kloof-street, and in the evening she appeared with the troupe at the Theatre Royal.' , The evidence given at the inquest was to the effect that Mrs Fulton was alone in her bedroom at the hotel, where most of the members of the troupe were staying, in the evening, about eight o'clock, the company having arranged to leave Capetown next day. A noise was heard, and her husband and brother, with others, rushed in to find her stretched on the ground. She said nothing but " Oh, my side,"' and, after being put to bed, expired. The bullet had penetrated her side, and was stopped by the skin from passing out at her back under the shoulder.
