FOXTON.

December 20.

A serious fire occurred here at 1 o'clocyesterday morning, by which Mr T. R. Williams' store was burned to tbe ground, and all the stock destroyed. The stock was estimated at over £2000. The building, which was a very old one, was insured for £250. The origin of the fire is a complete mystery. Mr George Williams, the proprietor's brother, slept ou the premises, and when he retired at 11 o'clock at night everything was safe. The fire was no sooner observed than the whole building was a mass of flames, preventing anyone aproaching it. Only a few pounds of tobacco were saved. The Primitive Methodist Church on the north side and the old Custom-house on the south side were saved with difficulty. Fortunately there was no wind at the time. The insurances are as follows: — South British, £500; National, £1250, of which £500 is in the Scottish Imperial, and £250 in the United, making the net loss of the National Company £500.
