HAWKE'S BAT STOCK AND STATION REPORT.
During the last month very little business has been done in stock, prices being too high for purchasers, and sellers having such an abundance of feed that they are able to hold their stock and will eventually get the prices asked. Tho country is loooking splendid after the late rain, and although it has retarded shearing it has made abundance of feed everywhere ; consequently every class of stock should be in good condition and there will be very little difference between the price of fat and store stock. A large acreage haa been shut up for grass seed and is looking well, and if the weather keeps fine for harvesting will yield very good returns. M. R. Miller and Potts report with myself that transactions in sheep are very limited, and beyond a few lines to Gisborne and Wanganui very little business has been done, owners preferring to keep and fatten their stock.
Cattle —There is more enquiry, but the demand has not affected the prices very much as yet, although we believe that in another month the prices will have risen considerably, especially in store steers, this being the class of cattle most in demand at present.
