The contest for the Mayoralty has resulted in the re-election of Mr George Fisher by a majority of 620. The numbers were—Fisher, 812; A.. Young, 192.
Mr Shaw, solicitor, has renewed his application to the Minister of Justice that the remainder of the sentence passed on Longhurst be remitted. It is understood that now the judgment of the Appeal Court has been delivered the Cabinet will definitely decide whether or not any action should be taken with regard to releasing Longhurst.
At a meeting of the Education Board yesterday it was decided that the pupils of classical or other schools for higher education be ineligible to compete for the annual scholarships offered by the Board.
