GREYMOUTH.
November 25
Mrs Smith, a married woman, who had been leading a drunken, dissolute life of late, was found dead in her house yesterday. The cause was drink. The house was quite destitute of furniture. Tbe husband of the deceased had left her Borne time ago on account of her bad habits. At the inquest, a verdict was returned that death had resulted from alcoholic poison. It appeared from the evidence that the house in which the deceased had lived was not fit for human habitation. The rain came through the ceiling, the wails were wet, the paper rotten, aud the house wretchedly dirty. A man named Hard had taken up with her a few days ago, and had been keeping ber supplied with drink ever since. Both were drunk all the time. There was no food or anything of comfort of life in the place.
