WAIROA.
QFBOM OTJB OWN CORRESPONDENT.") November 20, 1882.
The Clyde Total Abstinence Society's fortnightly meeting took place in the Clyde school-room on Thursday. Four new members were admitted, among them the Rev. W. Goodyear. Although the weather was very [bad there was a fair attendance.
The meetings in Clyde and Frasertown re harbor improvement were well attended, and the ratepayers almost unanimously adopted the resolution for a special rate. At the Frasertown meeting a telegram was read from Mr J. G. Kinross, stating that he waa favorable to a special rate on his properties if properly apportioned. It was not for a moment supposed Mr Kinross would object to a rate rate for harbor improvement, but the assurance has had a good effect. I wish more landowners took such a liberal view of the matter as Mr Kinross.
The compulsory clauses of the Education Act are about to be enfored in this district against the parents of children who do not attend school.
