A tea meeting and concert will be given in the Presbyterian Church, Meanee, this evening; tea at 6 p.m., and music and addresses at 7.30 ; a'bus will leave Newton's corner at 5.30.
A social entertainment under the auspices of the Work and Win Lodge, 1.0.G-.T., consisting of a lecture on phrenology by Mr Rush, and songs, recitations, &c, will take place in the Oddfellows' Hall, Hastings, this evening.
Owners of horses are reminded that nominations for the Christmas, Hurdle, and Hastings Handicaps, to be run at the Boxing Day meeting of the Jockey Club, close with the secretary, Mr Luckie, at the Criterion Hotel this evening.
Nominations of candidates for the office of Mayor must be sent in to the Town Clerk's office by noon to-morrow. The members of the Hawke's Bay Meat Export Company meet at the office of the A. and P. Society, Napier, at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
A meeting of the members of the Hawke's Bay County Council will be held in the Council Chamber at noon to-moi*row for the purpose of electing a chairman for the ensuing year.
Meetings of the creditors of J. T. Johnson and 11. R. Gunn will take place at the Court House, Napier, to-morrow, the former at 2 p.m., and the latter at 3 p.m., when the bankrupts will make application for certificates that they have complied with the provisions of the Bankruptcy Acts.
Messrs Banner and Liddle's next auction sale of hides, skins, tallow, and other colonial produce, will be held at their Spit stores tomorrow at 2 p.m.
The Colonial Clothing ' and General Drapery Company commences its sale of drapery, clothing, &c., in the shop next Holt's timber yard to-morrow. The Artillery and Rifle Volunteers parade for monthly inspection in front of the Athenajum on Friday evening, when the companies will march out and be exercised in battalion drill by Lieut. Pell. A meeting of officers to arrange the district prizes will bo held afterwards.
Ralph Gardiner the younger, of Clyde, builder, declares his inability to meet his engagements, and the first meeting of creditors is convened to be held at the Court House, Napier, on Monday, December 4. The capital of the South British Insurance Company has been increased to £2,000,000, and Mr C. G. Smyth has been appointed an agent. By an order of the Supreme Court the deed of arrangement made between G. Benjamin, storekeeper, of Taradale, and his creditors is declared to be completely executed.
All accounts due to the estate of the late H. M. White, solicitor, must be paid on or before the end of the month to Mr Brooking, or proceedings will be taken to enforce payment. Messrs Monteith and Co.'s sale of sawn timber at Hastings will take place on Wednesday 29th instant. The timber is chiefly totara.
Messrs Blythe and Co., have complete trimming for ladies' hats in grass wreaths afc sixpence each. Any one returning a black sheep pup, which is lost, to Mr M.\R. Miller, will be rewarded.
