A meeting of those interested in the temperance movement will be held in Trinity Church vestry at 8 o'clock this evening, for the purpose of forming a Band of Hope and Temperance Society. The non-commissioned officers and privates of the Napier Rifle Volunteers meet at the Occidental Hotel at 8 o'clock to-night to discuss the new Volunteer regulations. The lady members] of tho Northern Concert Choir assemble at tho Theatre Royal at 7.30 this evening for rehearsal, and the gentlemen at 8 o'clock. The concert will be given in the theatre on Wednesday evening, 15th instnnt. In consequence of tomorrow being a holiday the practice of the Napier Eire Brigade will take place this evening at the usual hour. Entries for the Napier Rowing Club's Trial Fours must be leffc afc the Criterion Hotel, addressed to the secretary, Mr Bogle, not later than 8 o'clock to-night. The Hawke's Bay Loyal Orange Lodge hold a soiree and ball in the Protestant Hall tonight; the table will be laid at 1 o'clock sharp. Mr Martin Ryan, the propriotor, gives a house-warming at the Taradale Hotel tonight. Ryan's coach, for the conveyance of town friends will leave Newton's corner for Taradale at 1 p.m. To-morrow will be observed as a close holiday by the memhers of the Napier Holiday Association. The Petane races will be run on the Petane f racecourse to-morrow, the first race starting punctually at noon. The Friendly Societies hold their annual fete at Hastings to-morrow, the sports commencing at 12.15 p.m., and special excursion trains will be run to Hastings in connection therewith. The four Courts of Foresters meet afc the Foresters' Hall afc 9 a.m., the Loyal United Friends and the Hibernian Society at their respective lodge-rooms at the same hour, and the whole of the Friendly Societies at the Fire Brigade Station at 9.30 a.m., for the purpose of marching in procession.

The Loyal Hastings Lodge of Oddfellows celebrate their anniversary by a dinner and ball at Hastings to-morrow evening. A meeting in connection with the flax industry will be held afc Hastings to-morrow evening. Builders are reminded that tenders for the erection of a four-roomed cottage afc Hapuku's pa must be sent in to Mr JDugleby to-morrow. Messrs Banner and Liddle sell a quantity of furniture by auction at their rooms, on Friday at 11 a.m., and afc 2 p.m. dispose of two sections of land in Napicr,jwith cottages thereon. The committee of the late Fancy Fair return thanks to those who assisted in making the Fair a success. The ratepayers of the Havelock Highway District are informed that the rate of 3d in the £1 on all ratable property in the district is payable on the 28th instant. Mr E. Dixon announces that he has removed to the Horse Bazaar livery stables, where horses, buggies, &c„ can be had as heretofore. Mr J. W. O'Brien has taken fche Albion livery and baiting stables, where he has every accommodation and first-class hacks, buggies, &c, for hire. Mr F. Tuxford has received a direct shipment of harvesting tools, sheep shears, and disc harrows, which are to be sold cheap. Mr James Bogle offers two special prizes of four ginueas each for the best colt and best filly got by the -Clydesdale sire Bothwell, to bo awarded by the judges at the Agricultural show of 1884.

Mr R. Holfc has a good stock of building timber of all kinds, and matched and rusticated boards, always on hand at his saw mills, Port Ahuriri.
