TAUPO.
November 8
Re the injury to the horse, the matter is now in the bands of the police, who, on searching yesterday, found distinct traces of an attempt having been made to run the horse into a large boiling spring known as the "Witches Cauldron." This having failed, the culprit appears to have first fearfully maltreated the animal, and then attempted to sever the backbone with a tomahawk.
