Mr Alexander Lean has been appointed Sheriff of Canterbury, vice Mr A. R. Bloxam.
Mr J. W. May, captain of the Christchurch Bicycle Club, rode a bicycle to Hurunui and back yesterday, covering 112 miles iv 17 hours.
In the Supreme Court yesterday, in the divorce case of Long v. Long and Stokes, Judge Johnston granted a decree nisi, but allowed no costs. A new company, with a nominal capital of £20,000, has been floated at Kaiapoi for purchasing farm produce and milling flour. It commences operations immedintely, and will be known as the Kaiapoi Farm Produce and Milling Company. It takes over the produce business of Blackwell, Evans and Co. and Mr Heat's flour mill.
