The Colonial Secretary left for tbe South by the steamer Rotorua yesterday. Mr Dick expects to be absent from Wellington a fortnight.
A woman named Julia O'Beirne attempted suicide yesterday by jumping off the breastwork. She was rescued by two gentlemen who were passing and conveyed to the lock-up. She was today csmmitted for trial on a charge of attempting to commit suicide by throwing herself into the harbor. At a meeting of the Wellington Racing Club last night it was decided to remove the disqualification from the horse Mata and the jockey Ray.
