DIOCESAN SYNOD.

Friday, October 20. The Synod met at 4 p.m. in St. John's Yschoolroom. Present: Tbe Bishop of Waiapu (President), Archdeacon Williams, Revs. C. Jordan, S. Williams, C. L. Tuke, H. Maclean, De Beidt Hovell, J. C. Eccles, A. O. Soutar, S. M. Spencer, J. Hill, E. H. Granger, and Messrs W. I. Spencer, T. K. Newton, W. Ellison, J. Thornton, Montague H. Smith. A. J. Cotterill, T. Morrison, R C. Pasley, G. A. Oliver, J. J. Buchanan, J. B. Fielder, H. A. Banner, T. Tnnks, John Nairn, M. R. Miller, and H. Wilding. ArGhdeacon Williams moved (1.) " That it is desirable that steps should be taken for tbe formation of a Diocesan Library." (2.) " That tbe Standing Committee be requested to give effect to this resolution." The motion -was seconded by Rev. J. C. Eccles and carried unanimously. Mr Thornton moved, and Rev. J. Hill seconded, (1.) "That a committee be appointed to make enquiries, collect information, and prepare a statement throwing light upon the organisation and working of any scheme on foot or in contemplation, having for its object the formation of a General Church Fund, to report at the next session of the Synod." (2.) " Such committee to consist of the Revs. De Berdt Hovell, H. W. St. Hill. Messrs J. B. Fielder, H. WildiDg, and the mover."—Carried. The Rev. De Berdt Hovell moved, "That the report of the Business Committee of the Bishopric Endowment Fund be adopted." 'y'Mr J. Thornton seconded the motion, ■which was carried. On the motion of Rev. De Berdt Hovell it was agreed, " That this Synod accords a hearty vote of thanks to the Bishopric Endowment Fuud Committee for their paßt labors, and begs to congratulate them upon tbe satisfactory report that they have been enabled to furnish." Archdeacon Williams moved, and Mr Cotterill seconded, " That the report of tbe committee on the parochial returns and accounts be adopted."—Carried. Tbe Rev. De Berdt Hovell moved, and Mr Ellison seconded. " That in view of the approaching session of the General Synod appointed to be held in Napier in April, 1873, this Diocesan Synod commission its standing committee to make all necessary arrangements in connection therewith."—Carried.
