October 2. Gorton and Trinket have been scratched for the C.J.C. Handicap. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court were opened this morning. The Judge's charge contains nothing of interest. The following sentences have been passed : — Alexander Clark for forgery and uttering, two years; F. S. Williams, for embezzlement, one year. The eight hours " go-as-you-please" handicap at tbe drill-shed on Saturday was won by O'Connor, the scratch man, who gave some of his opponents one hour's start. O'Connor in seven hours covered 45f miles ; Cusack, the second man, 45£ miles in 7_- hours ; Bull, the third man, 38_ miles in 7 hours 34 mius. The cricket season was opened on Saturday by an unusually large number of matches, promising well for a vigorous season. The annual horse parade was held in the Agricultural grounds ou Saturday. There were 53 entries, mostly of a very good class. The colonial draught horses especially were good. In the colonial thoroughbred class also there were some very fine animals. The American trotters Irvington, Berlin, and Blackwood Abdallah were exhibited in the carriage horse class and excited a good deal of admiration. The attendance of tho public was moderate.
