ANSWERS TO QUERIES.

[To the Editor of tho Daily Telegeapit.] Siß,—Seeing a few questions in last night's Teleqaph re the scratching of Tidal Wave, allow me to answer some of the qustions which refer to me. 1. I am the owner of Tidal Wave. 2. The horse has been trained at Chesterhope stables by me up to Inst Thursday. 5. Tidal Wave met with an accident last Wednesday jumping. 6. If " Stiff-un," refers to the rules of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club he will see for himself. As for the other questions, as they do not concern me, I need not answer them. Now, to make a few remarks. I question a " Stifl-un's " right to ask any question concerning my scratching of the horse called Tidal Wave. As soon as I found out that to bring him to tbe post and start him I should break him down altogether, I immediately scratched him, as I bad stated that I was doubtful if I would be able to start hi;n. 1( I had acted dishonestly I would have kept him in the race till just before starting, and then have scratched him. I distinctly state that I have not derived any money

benefit by scratching him, quite the reverse, as I now lose a good bit of money—more I will wager than a "Stiff-un." I can prove that the horse was in training up till he met with the accident last Wednesday at the stables at Ohesterhope, by twenty witnesses. If a " Stiff-un " will sign his own name in his next letter I might be able to give him fmther explanation re the above matter. By inserting the above you will greatly oblige

John R. Jones, Owner of Tidal Wave. Hastings, September 30. 1882.
