September 28. The Hon. Mr Dick baa inspected the gaol, the Industrial Home, and theLuuatic Asylum. He expressed much satisfaction with the interior management and outdoor arrangements of the latter institution. Robert Marsh, the burglar, was committed for trial yesterday on come half-
dozen charges of burglary; the balance were not gone on with.
A cottage belonging to Mr F. Sheasby at Three Kings was burnt down on Tuesday night. It was insured in the North British office for £150. The furniture was also insured.
A meeting of ladies was held yesterday to protest against the enforcement of the Contagious Diseases Prevention Act. There were about 200 ladies present. Thirty-three petitions on the subject are in circulation, and are being extensively signed. A meeting of the clergy is convened for to-day on the same matter.
At a meeting of the directors of the Mutual Insurance Company it was decided to limit the present issue of shares to £10,000, and commence business next week.
