CHRISTCHURCH.
September 16. Captain Dugald Macfarlane, a Waterloo veteran, and an old colonist, has died at the age of 92 years. Steps are being taken to present tbe Mayor with a testimonial in recognition of his great public services during his past year of office. During the past week 39 bills of sale, liens, and mortgages, covering £34,056, were registered here. Mr Robert Chopman, the well-known runholder of North Canterbury, died at Melbourne on Thursday, rather suddenly. He came from Victoria with the second flock of sheep ever sent here, and when the runs were originally submitted for competition Mr Chopman became lessee of No 1, part of which is now his freehold.
