GISBORNE.
September 16. Several large blocks of land have been taken up here lately. John Herbert, of Tapanui, has leased from the natives S4OO acres of rich pastoral land 16 miles from Gisborne, and it is understood that Mr J. N. Williams, of Napier, is purchasing 35,000 acres from the natives. The land lies ten miles inland from the coast. The natives wish to lease several other large tracts of country amounting to 200,000 or 300,000 acres.
