HAWERA.
September 8
No less than 475 applications for land have been made, some of which are informal. The informality in most of the cases is caused by persons wishing to apply not having obtained the necessary declaration before a J.P., and in some cases it is understood that there is a doubt as to whether the applicants are of statutory age, namely, above the age of eighteen years. The total amount of cash received at Hawera with the applications was £7599 8s lOd, and £625 8s at Patea, making a gross total of deposits at £8224 16s lOd. There were several sections, both rural and village settlement land, for which there was no applicant, and several persons applied for more tban one section, in which case only one application will be regarded as ia order.
