SYDNEY.
September 7. The schooner Merchantman, 184 tons, of this port, struck on a reef near Port Hacking to-day, and sank shortly afterwards in deep water. All hands got ashoie in safety. The ironmasters of this city are agitating for an increase of wages on account of the high price of provisions, and a serious strike is imminent. September 8. Another of the claims against the Government for compensation for land reserved at Darling harbor for railway purposes has been settled. In this case the claimants, Messrs Maiden, Hill, and Clark, sued for £20 000, but the Court awarded only £4.900
