HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

Feidat, September 1. Present: His Worship the Mayor (chairman), Messrs J. Bennett, M. R. Miller, Allan M'Lean, J. A. Smith, H. H, Wall, H. Williams, C. B. Winter, and Dr. de Lisle. THE BUEGEON-SUPERINTENDENT. The sub-committee appointed to confer with Dr. Menzies respecting the continuation of bis services as surgeonsuperintendent of the institution reported as follows:—

V ' 1. That they arranged with Dr. Menzies A to continue in the position of surgeon-super-f intendent during the present month at a salary at the rate of 300 per annum, and to attend to the dispensing for an allowance at the rate of £50 per annum. 2. That they arranged with Dr. Menzie3 to continue in the position of surgeon-super-intendent and dispencer, at the rate of £350 per annum, and his wife to reside in the hospital with him as at present. This agaeement to be terminated on either side by giving three months' notice and to bo first confirmed by the Napier Hospital Board. No private practice to be permitted. The report was adopted without dissent. Dr deLisle then withdrew his motion respecting a reorganisation of the medical staff, of which notice was given at the previous meeting. On the motion of Mr Winter, seconded by Mr Wall, a grant of £55 was voted to Dr Menzies for his services as dispenser to the institution during the past two years. HOSPITAL LIBRARY. A letter was read from the Napier Dramatic Amateurs, requesting the patronage of the committee for a performance in aid of the hospital library, to be given next month. It was agreed that tbe patronage of the .committee be accorded. SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS. -J Dr de Lisle moved that Dr Menzies be requested to make out a list of instruments required for tbe use of the hospital to the value of about £100. ■j The motion was seconded by Mr M'Lean and carried. MR STOKES' LEGACr. A letter was read from Mr J. W. Carlile and Mr F. Logan giving their 'opinion on the subject of Mr Stokes' legacy, to the effect that if the legacy is ready to be handed over the treasurer of the hospital can give a valid receipt to the trustee's of Mr Stokes' will.; OUT-PATIENTS. On the moMon of Mr Banner it was resolved, "That any fees which may be .received from out-patients for medical attendance, or for sale of medicines shall be entered in a book to be kept by the superintendent for that purpose ; the total amount received during the month 'to be handed to the treasurer with the . fees from indoor patients. No fees shall be received without a receipt being given on a form to be supplied for the purpose." It was also agreed, on the motion of Mr Wall, " That no medicine be supplied to out-patients who are able to pay for it." An amendment proposed by Dr de Lisle, " That neither advice nor medicine be supplied gratuitously to outpatients who can afford to pay for it," was negatived by 5 to 3. Mr Wall moved and Mr Bennett seconded, " That plans and specifications for increased accommodation at tbe hospital be obtained and laid before the next meeting, and that a sub-committee be appointed to carry out tbe resolution ; such sub-committee to consist of Dr Spencer and Messrs Williams, Miller, and the mover."—Carried. VISITING COMMITTEE. Messrs Smith and Williams were appointed the visiting committee for the month. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £230 4s (including salaries, £69 15s lOd) were passed for payment, and the committee adjourned.
