The massacre of Seccoceni and a large number, of hia followers in Basuto-land has created a considerable sensation, and is generally attributed to the announcement of the British intention to restore Cetewayo, which is regarded as a violation of the pledgee publicly given in regard to the settlement of the Zulu difficulty.
The number of idlers hanging about Alexandria cause apprehension, and it is thought an attack on Fort Mcx is meditated.
The Porte denies that any alliance exists between it and Persia. The Khedive is at Keeltauls. The Arabists at Ramleh are quiet. Fever has broken out among the enemy, who have retired to Telekebor.
At Damietta the Christians are being maltreated.
Thirty-six newspapers favor the proposed banquet to be given to M. de Lesseps.
The Greeks are persistent in revenging the Turkish outrages.
August 31. A strong Arabist feeling prevails at Stamboul.
John Dunn advises that preparations be made to welcome the return of Cetewayo to Zululand.
Cairo and Kassassin are quiet. The British troops are suffering severely from the excessive heat in Egypt.
A military train of 30 guns and 1400 gunners has been ordered to Egypt. Cholera is reported to have broken out amongst the troops.
Bonds to the value of £15,000 have been stolen from the Stock Exchange. There is no clue to the robbers.
