CONVERTING CETEWAYO.

Endeavours, it seems, havo been made under the auspices of a Gospel Association in London, named tho Bine Kibbon Army, to convert Cetewayo to Christianity and temperance. AMr Noble, the director of tho Army, had an interview with the dusky sovereign in Capetown, and performed on the concertina before him. Cetewayo seems to havo been delighted with the music, for he expressed a wish to obtain Mr Noble's concertina ; and thi3 has led to the Army in London purchasing such an instrument specially for him, and it has been sent out by the Rev. Dr. Hole, of Capetown. At a meeting of the army Dr. Hole spoke of tho hopefulness of Cetewayo becoming a Christian, although ho did not speak so encouragingly as to temperance. He is reported to have stated that on being questioned the Zulu chief said that he was allowed a bottle of gin per diem, and declared that he did not much care for it, unfortunately adding, however, that he preferred champagne. Thus it seemed that his mind was not yet ripe for temperance truths. But the interview had not been altogether without effect, for he (the speaker) learned some days afterwards that Cetewayo had applied to have gingerbeer substituted for his allowance of gin, with the proviso, however, that he should receive the difference of cost in money.
