THE H.B. COUNTY CANDIDATES.

[To the Editor of the Daily Teleguaph.] Sib, —Now that the polling day ia drawing near I notice the Captain is becoming more active, and determined to either do or die. I would be sorry to hear of tbe latter, but I hope be will have to make a safe retreat to Flaxmere. I admit it will be very hard after doing such a voyage of house to house canvassing at Taradale and Meanee, and oh ! how dreadful the waste of his valuable time in writing those circulars, after being so very careful to impress upon the people of Taradale that he would ask no man for his vote. I am beginning think he is the nice pliable, shifting, easy-moulded individual the man of Taradale describes him to be. When it is all over how he will stiffen up. We will miss all those bows and squeezing ot fingers, so really there is one consolation for the Captain to look forward to. But my own impression is that he will not know us from a crow after the 9th December. lam considerably struck with the easy happy-go-lucky usual style of Mr Sutton, and I hope we shall all endeavor to place him at the head of the poll, which he so justly deserves from the manner in which he has climbed the ladder which I was so pleased to hear Mr Heslop describe on Eriday last at the nominations. Another reason why he ought to command every working man's vote is the manner in wbieh he has Bhot out from us. He has had to race against Sirs, Colonels, Majors, and Captains, and in even the keenest of contests. And he will win this in spite of the runholders trying tbeir utmost endeavors to handicap him out of it. He carries weight well, and he is such a determined finisher that he will win on the post. Captain Russell says there is a great deal of humbug in politics, but none of us working men like to be humbugged, therefore we will not have anything do do with him, but will rally round the old well tried and most useful veteran and place him at tho head of the poll by a howling majority.-—I am, &c, Working Man. Hastings, December 5, 1881.
