HARBOR BOARD.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15
The Board met at 2.80 p.m.
Present: Messrs Vautier (in the chair), Smith, Kinross, Tanner, Mi'ler, Lyndon, Williams, Gleadow, and Lambert. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Marine Department, approving of tbe plana and specifications of the proposed works in the inner harbor, subject to certain modifications suggested by the Colonial Marine Engineer. From the Inspector of Works, reporting that the suggestions of the Colonial Engineer in reference to the dredging would not affect the general scheme. The secretary was instructed to apply to the Government for a reply to a former communication in reference to removing the stuff raised by the dredging operations by the railway, and it was resolved that, if the reply was favorable, the dredging operations should be commenced forthwith. -^ The Inspector of Works also reported' upon the training wall at the bridge, and it was resolved to leave the matter with Mr Ormond to arrange with the Government. A report upon the progress made in the construction of the punts was also read. The Harbour Master reported that
the greatest draught of water at which he could bring in a vessel was twelve feet. He also stated that he had not been able to arrange with any of the vessels in the harbour about lighting the mooring buoy. The Inspector of Works recommended that some of the metal brought by vessels as ballast should be obtained lor road metal. It was resolved that fifty tons of the metal should be procured as au experiment. Letters from Mr W. Marker and Mr Cross applying for tbe office of secretary to the Board were read. BALANCE. The secretary reported that the Board had a credit balance at the bank of £1383 3s 3d. ACCOUNTS. Vouchers to the amount of £275 were passed for payment. PORT REGULATIONS. Mr Miller reported that the committee appointed to consider the communication received from the Otago Harbor Board in reference to the uniformity of port regulations had requested the opinion of the clerk of works on the matter, and they suggested that Mr Saunders' report should be forwarded along with tbe committee's report to the Otago Harbor Board. The report was adopted. SECRETARYSHIP. A report of the committee appointed to consider this matter was brought up by Mr Miller. The committee recommended that acknowledgment be made of tbe secretary's services, and that Mr Saunders be appointed engineer and secretary to the Board at a salary of £250 per annum. The report was adopted, and the Board adjourned.
