CHRISTCHURCH.
October 31. The Bishops of Nelson, Wellington, and Waiapu, have arrived to attend jthe consecration of the Cathedral. Mr H. Secretan, the cricketer, was presented on Friday with a testimonial on the occasion of his intended departure from Christchurch. Alexander Mcintosh, one of the earliest settlers, having arrived here in 1840, died at Mcintosh Bay, Lyttelton, on Saturday, aged 82 years. Great preparations are being made for the consecration of the Cathedral tomorrow. . The agricultural show privileges on Saturday realised £215. Mr J. Guild, one of the candidates for the Ashley district, addressed the electors on Friday, and received a vote of confidence. On Saturday evening seventy-eight volunteers from Ashburton, Temuka, and Timaru, left by the Stelle for the froht.' ( For continuation of news see fourtlipdge^)
