Hilarious ran well for a mile, but fell behind at the end of the course. The finish was very close. MARIBYRNONG PLATE, Five furlongs. Segenhoe ... ... ... 1 Time, 1 mm 4 sees. 'Segenhoe won easily. Guess Work and Navigator ran a dead head for second place. THE VICTORIAN DERBY, One mile and a half. Darebin ... 1 Santa Claus 2 Commotion ... ... ... 3 —Somnus, Flying Jib, the Cockney, Sardonyx, Monmcuth, Somerset, Spectre, Royal Maid, and Spinningdale also ran. Santa Claus made the running nearly all the way, Somnus lying second and third until reaching the distance post, when he collapsed, and died away coming up the straight. Somerset, the favorite, was last nearly all" the way. Darebin lay in, a good position at the distance post, when he went to the front, and won comfortably. Time, 2 mins 4l| sees. - . Santa Claus has greatly improved in the Cup betting to-night on account of his running in the Derby. The following is the latest betting on the Cup :—Darebin, 3to 1; Waxy, 4 to 1; Duchess, 20 to 1.; Odd Trick, 50 to 3.
