The Commission of Enquiry into the working of the Education Act has been appointed by the Government, in accordance with the announcement made in the Governor's speech at the opening of the preeent session. Mr Ormond is appointed President of the Commission, and its constitution is receiving severe criticism. At a caucus of the Opposition to-day a resolution was carried to the effect that the Commission was unsatisfactory, and Mr Ramsey has since given notice of motion to that effect. It is understood that the motion is not intended to be one of want of confidence in the Government. It is stated that, a parcel of gold discovered at Fiji has been assayed in Melbourne with a satisfactory result. October 21. Mr Ramsay's motion condemning the appointments by the Government to the Education Commission will come on in the Assembly on Tuesday next. SYDNEY. October 20. A storm of unsual violence has been experienced to-day on the coast and in this city, causing serious damage to several houses in the suburbs. The shipping in the harbor has, however, suffered no injury, and, as far as can be ascertained, no casualties have occurred on the coast. Dr. Renwick, who was appointed Minister for Mines on the 12th instant, was re-elected for the East Sydney constituency to-day. His return was Hnopposed. October 21. The storm which was experienced here yesterday wrecked two huts and destroyed several fences at the quarantine ground at the North head. All the patients at the station are progressing favorably.
