Messrs Goldsbrough and Co. report for September:— Sheepskins. —During the early part of the month the market was somewhat depressed, resulting from the rather unfavourable news from the London wool market, and prices receded slightly, but afterwards recovered, and a gradual improvement has been noticeable of late, full-woolled skins of superior quality being readily saleable up to 6s lO'l each. The bulk of our catalogues hare, of course, comprised woolled skins, but p<dts are making their appearance, and earlyshorn have found buyers up to lOd each. The uiarket is steady at quotations, viz. :— Butchers' green skins, superior, 5s 9d to 6s lOd each ; do. do. do., average, 2s 9d to 5s 9d each ; do. dry do., superior, 4s 6d to 5s 6d each ; do. do. do., average, 2s 6d to 4s 6d each ; dry skins, in bales, &c, superior, Z_d to 7d per lb. ; do. do., average, 3d to s_d per lb. Hides.—A good inquiry has existed throughout the month, and present price? show an advance of about a farthing per lb. on those noted in our Inst circular Superior l>ts, in go>d saleable condition— viz., free from offal and ears, and dean— have attracted most attention, and the loenl tanners have recently been operating with considerable vigour. Shipments of heavyweights from New Zealand have met with good demand, und superior lots are noW ruling at from 4§d f .o 5d per lb. Calfskins have been neglected, the demand beinsr limited, and only large skins, free from cuts, &c , have found ready sale, small and inferior skins being almost unsaleable. Current quotations are :—Green ox, average sizes, ISs to 26s 6d each ; do. cow, do., 13s 9d to 16s each ; Victorian-salted, superior, 4d io 4_d per lb ; average, to 4d per lb ; inferior, 2_c] to 3id per lb ; kips, 3d to per lb ; calfskins, 3£ to 3fd per lb ; New Zeal and-sal ted, superior, 4fd to 5d per lb ; do. do., .iveratre, to 4fd per lb ; Sydney ■•d Adelaide, do., superior, 4d to 4|d per I'd. 'allow.—The gradual improvement in the London market has had a corresponding effyt here, and present prices show a considerable advance on those last quoted. We have sold by public auction and private contract 1272 casks, and report a strong demand at quotations. The local manufacturers have operated freely, and shippers have only been restrained by the few freights obtainable ;at the same time, a good business has been done, and favourite brands have met with spirited competition. Latest adviee3 are also of an encouraging nature, and a still further advance in prices may reasonably be expected. A comparison of quotations show an advance of about £3 to £4 per ton on last month's rates. We quote : —Ordinary mutton, from £30 to £32 per ton ; beef, _28 to £30 10s do ; mixed, £2HOs to £30 do ; inferior, £17 to £24 10s do. Shipping parcels, of good brands — mutton up to £33 per ton (f.0.b.) ; beef to £31 do. (f.0.b.).

Wheat. —During the past month some heavy transactions have ta'<en place in wheat, in consequence of the large estimated deficiency in the American and English yields, and prices have advanced fully 2d per bushel since our last report. The arrivals from the inland districts have been on a moderate scale. We quote : —-Prime milling, 5s 7d ; medium to good, 5s 4|d to 5s 6d; and inferior to medium, 5s to 5s 4d per bushel.

Flour.—Good country brands are worth from £11 2s 6d to £11 7s 6d, and townmilled .611 10s sterling per ton.

Oats.—During the month the demand has improved, and a large supply has been disposed of at satisfactory prices, viz : —Prime milling, 3s 6d to 3b 7d ; prime feed, 3s 5d ; medium to good, 3s 3|d" to 3s 4|d ; and inferior to medium, 3s l|d to 3s 3d per bushel.

Barley.—This market remains quiet, but all coining forward can be placed at quotations, prime malting parcels finding most attention. We quote : —Prime malting, 3s 7d ; medium to good, 3s 5d to 3s 6_d ; inferior to medium, 3s 3d to 3s 4Jd; and feed Borts, 3s Id to 3 2*fd per bushel. Maize is in demand at from 4s 0_ to 4s l|d per bushel.

London, October 10. Consols have declined to 99.

New Zealand securities are unchanged. The market for colonial breadstuffs is quiet at unchanged quotations, namely, Adelaide wheat, ex-sore, 58s ; New Zealand ditto, 565. Adelaide flour, ex-store 425.

Australian tallow is firm at 41s 6d for best beef, and 45s for best mutton.
