There are 1823 names on the Napier electoral roll at the present time ; 173 of these have been added within the last two months. On the Olive roll there are 1620 names. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint the following gentlemen to be the District Board of the Wallingford Highway District for the ensuing year :— Messrs George Hunter, John Mackersey, John White, Dennis Ryan, and J. D. Oγmond. Mr Joseph Leonard resigned his seat for the North "Ward in the Municipal Council on July 28 last, and since then that part of the borough has been deprived of its proper share of representation. Mr Renouf, who was elected on the Bth of this month, was no sooner sworn in than he resigned. Ho put in his resignation on Saturday afternoon last, and yesterday, the Returning officer was notified of the extraordinary vacancy. At a meeting of the Borough Public Works Committee, held last evening, the following recommendations were agreed to :—l. That the engineer's report of the 16th inst. be adopted. 2. That an advertisement be inserted warning the public from taking dogs or plucking flowers in the Botanical Gardens, and notifying that offenders will be prosecuted. The committea also decided to submit for the consideration of the Council the reports of Mr Stewart and Mr Lamb on the extension of the water works schme.

Afc the annual meeting of the Union Rowing Club, held last evening, it was resolved to co-operate with the Napier Club in the opening of the season, and to purchase a new pair-oared out-rigger for racing purposes. The following officebearers were elected for the ensuing year : —President, Mr J. H. Vatitier; VicePresident, Mr G. H. Swan ; Captain, Mr T. H. Gifford; Vice-Captain, Mr E. H. Witt; Secretary, Mr S. To-night there will be a double bill with " Uncle " and " My Turn's Next," in both of which Mr Marshall will appear.

The following civil cases were disposed of in the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning:—Evans v. Hirini Takamoana, claim £11 8o 6d; judgment for plaintiff, with costs and counsel's fee. Saeffer v. Henry Neal, claim £2 7s 6d ; adjourned til Monday next, plaintiff to furnish a complete account. Mcllroy v. James Neagle, claim £5 10s 6d; judgment for plaintiff, with costs and counsel's fee. Judgment summons :—The 11. B. School Commissioners v. Holloway and Reidy, sen., claim £19 14s, order made that the debt and costs, including counsel's fee, be paid forthwith, or that James Holloway be imprisoned for one month in Napier gaol. E. Neagle v. Steel, claim £9 6s 10d; order made that the debt with oosts be paid on the 20th October, or defendant ba imprisoned for one month.

A private special train leaves Hastings for Napier to-morrow, returning after the performance at the Theatre. Tenders are required for alterations and additions to a house.

The annual meeting of the Napier Volunteer Fire Police is postponed till Monday next.
