TAURANGA.
August 23
Messengers have arrived from the Arawa district, and they are now interviewing the Native Commissioner. They state that when they left inland yesterday several hapus residing round the Lakes were busily collecting arras and ammunition, and purpose resisting the survey party who were engaged surveying lands near Botomahana called Kaingawa. The excitement is spreading in the Lake district. Hopes, however, are entertained that the influence brought to bear through the Commissioner will prevent the parties engaging in actual strife.
