(PHOM OTJR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington-, August 13. The Stella left yesterday foi . New Plymouth carrying several members of the House. It is believed that the object of the visit is to ascertain the nature of the harbor works plans. Of the proposed electorates for redistribution of seats schedules to bill, which describe the boundaries of electorates, will not be published until next week. Mr Bryce gave notice of the following motion on the House going into committee of supply : —■" While recognising the retrenchment already effected by the Government it is desirable as suggested in the financial statement that the aggregate amount of departmental salaries should be further diminished by the reduction and equalization of salaries, and by the amalgamation of offices, and that the Government should during the recess by these means effect a reduction on the estimates of at least £30,000." Mr Wakefield brought in a bill to amend the Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Act 1867. It confers on each Supreme Court
Judge in his own district all the powers now held by the judges collectively, and is intended to simplify and cheapen the process by whicli divorces can be at present obtained.
