HERETAUNGA ROAD BOARD.
The regular meeting of the above Board took place on Thursday afternoon, at 3.30 p.m., in the Hastings schoolroom. Present: Messrs Fitzßoy, Foreman, Moore, and Wellwood (chairman). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Tbe following correspondence was read :— From the Under-Secretary acknowledging report of election of wardens and auditors for ensuing year. From Mr Eochfort, C.E., offering to give levels and plans for drainage of Hasting for £20. Telegram from Captain Russell re Highways Act. From the chairman of the Hastings School Committee, requesting the Board to drain the water now lying on the road near the school site. Proposed by Mr Fitzßoy, and seconded by Mr Foreman, that Mr Eochfort be requested to proceed with the levels and plans for tbe drainage scheme, the same | not to exceed the amount mentioned in his letter to the Board. Carried. Moved by Mr Fitzßoy, that permission be granted to the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club to continue the drain in Railway road up to the corner of the show section, and to remove the earth from the said drain, which must be formed of the same dimensions and finished in as workmanlike a manner as that already formed by the Board. Seconded by Mr ForemaD, and carried. Moved by Mr Fitzroy, that the chairman be requested to communicate with the chairman of the Hawke's Bay County Council to ascertain what arrangements (if any) might be made with the County whereby the county ranger could impound stray cattle from the roads under tne control of the Board. Seconded by Mr Moore, and carried. In reply to the letter from the School Committee, it was moved by Mr Foreman, seconded by Mr Fitzßoy, and carried, that a four-inch drain (pipes) be laid across the road to drain the water from the corner complained of. Proposed by Mr Moore, that the sum of £50 be voted by the Board for the repair of certain portions of the Omabu road, situated between Captain Russell's gate and Gorden and Hill's corner, the came to be under the supervision of the chairman. Seconded by Mr Fits Hoy, and agreed to. Moved by Mr Fitzßoy, seconded by
Mr Foreman, and carried, that during wet weather the chairman be authorised to employ the necessary labour to keep the water-tables and drains clear. Mr Foreman gave notice that at the next meetiner of the Board he would move, that Mr Tanner be requested to convey to the Board all the unconveyed roads in the block which he lately sold by public auction. The month's accounts were then passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
