CHRISTCHURCH.
February 28. The New Zealand Shipping Company's ship Otaki, and Shaw, Saville and Co.'s ship Pleiades sailed together for London on Saturday. A good race home is expected. A mill is to be started at Amberley to prepare flax pulp for exportation to Australia. A. petition for opening a public library on Sundays has been very largely signed by the leading citizens and others. Mr T. S. Weston, of Christchurch, and Mr Allan Holmes, of Dunedin, have been appointed examiners in law of candidates for admission to the bar of New Zealand. The first examination will take place at the end of March.
