Deibl and Dandson's flour mill at Otepopo was burned down this morning. The insurance on the stoik amounts to £800, on the building £3000, and oa the machinery £1500, divided as follows:— National, £1000 ; Union, £500 ; South British, £1000; United, £500; Victoria, £1000; Standard, £500 ; New Zealand, £800.
Moritzon's case is now on in the City Court. There was seme lively work while Mr Reid, the manager of the Standard Insurance Company, was under cross-examination. The defence will be that the business of the company has been loosely conducted, and an attempt is beiDg made to make Moritzon the scapegoat for the extensive defalcations which have taken place. Lio Nedo, a colored gentleman who has been lecturing here as a phrenologist, has been arrested for obtaining money by false pretences. The committee of 'the Otago Cricket Association write to the Star Btrongly condemning the conduct of Moore and Carr for refusing to bowl against the wind in the late Australian match, and both are called on for apologies.
