WELLINGTON.
January 11. Mr Bryce yesterday afternoon forwarded to the Premier his resignation as Minister. It is understood that he has done this in consequence of the Cabinet declining to accept his advice that immediate active measures should be adopted towards Parihaka and Te Whiti. He parts with his colleagues on perfectly friendly terms. Their reason for refusing to adopt bis policy is that they are pledged to Parliament to endeavor to carry out the report of the West Coast Commission before trying other measures Mr Bryce's resignation was received by the Premier at a lute hour last evening. Mr Rolleston will probably take temporary charge of the Native Department, but nothing definite has been settled or even discussed among Ministers. It is now ascertained that George North left by the 'Frisco steamer, taking with him the £4000 subscribed for his sweep on the Wellington Cup, and some hundreds on account of another sweep on the Canterbury Cup. He had privately managed to dispose of most of his property here. At a meeting ot his creditors to-day it was resolved to take legal advice regarding the position of affairs.
