COUNTIES' RIDINGS.

The following arc the divisions of he Auckland counties into lidings so far as the work had progressed up to yestei day afternoou. The information was obtained through the coiutesy of the officers in the Inspector of Surveys' depaitment from the official map, upon which the bouudaues of the ridings are being mai kcd : — Ba\ or Isi \ni>-> C'ootv. — Divided into three ridings : Kussell nding comprises the Russell highway district, and elects one member to the County Council ; Kawakawa riding (no highway boundaries) elects 2 members ; Waimatc riding (no highway bound aiies) elects 4 members to the Count} Council . Hor.sov Couvn. — Divided int© two n dings : Paparoa riding embraces the highway districts of Pukekaroro, Wairau, Paparoa, Matakohe. Wairoa riding embraces tht rest of the county. Paparoa elects 4 mem bers, and Wairoa 3 members to the County Council. Rodney County.— Divided into six ridings. Kaukapakapa riding comprises the Kaukapakapa and Komokonki highway districts. Puhoi liding comprises the Wainui, Puhoi, and Lower Mahurangi highway districts Mahurangi tiding comprises the Upper and East Mahurangi highway distnct3, the Matakana East and West highway districts, Omaha and Township of Warkworth highway districts. Tauhoa riding comprises the Tauhoa and Wharehine highway districts. Mangawai riding comprises the Pakin, Te Arai, and Mangawai highway districts. Albert liding comprises Albertland .North and South and Wakapirau highway districts, including the township of Port Albeit, together w ith the remainder of the county Kaukapakapa ndiug elects 2 members to the County Council, Puhoi 2, Mahurangi 2, Tauhoa 1, Mangawai 1, and Albert 1. Waii'Ema.i'v Counts consists of six ridings. Ararimu riding compiises the North and South Ararimu and Manetahi highway districts, and all the block of land lying to the west of the Kaipara JRiver, and bounded towards the south by the Waipareira and Waitakerei West highway distucts, known by the name of Muruvai Weiti riding comprises the Pukoatua and Wangaparoa highway districts. Takapuna ruling comprises the North Shore, Lake, and Devonport highway districts. Waitakerei riding comprises the Waitakerei East and \\ cat, and the Waipareira highway districts. Manukau riding comprises the W.ut.iUeiei South and Manukau highway distucN. Graftoa tiding comprises the Orafton Road, Karangahape, and Eden Terrace highway districts. Epsom riding comprises the Mount Eden, Epsom, and the One Tree Hill highway districts. Whau riding comprises the Mount Albert, "Whau, Point Chevalier, and Mount Roskill highway districts. Newton ridiug comprises the Ponsonby, Newton, and the Arch Hill highway districts. Taraaki riding elects 1 member to the County Council ; Onehunga, 1 ; Parnell, 2 ; (irafron, 1 ; Epsom, 1 ; Whau, 1 ; and Newton, 2. Maxckyu County is divided into seven ridings. Otahuhu riding comprises the Otahubu highway district, including the township of Otahuhu and the Mangere, Papatoitoi, and Manurewa highway districts Howick riding computes Howick township, Pakuranga, Paparoa, East Tamaki, Turanga, and Mdr.vetai highway districts. Papakura riding compiises the Papakura, Wairoa, and Hunua highway districts, and the township of Papakura. Mangatawhiri riding comprises the Maketu, Paparata, Pokeno, and Mangataw hiri highway districts, and all that portion of the county towards the east which is not included in any highway district. Pukekohe riding comprises the Pukekohe, Karaka, and Mauku highway districts, and the townships of Karaka and Cameron. Waiuku riding comprises the Waiuku and Waipipi highway districts, and the town ships of Waiuku and Pakington. Awitu ridmg comprises the Awitu and Pollock Settlement highway districts. Each riding in this county elects one member to the County Cornell. Waikvi > Counts. — Divided into three ridings: Cambridge tiding comprises CambrtdgeNoitii Township highway district, and Tamaheie high way district, KniUniioa ruling, and the Kangirin riding (in neither of the two last ridings lnne highway districts been formed) Cambndgi' riding el ots 2 members for the County Council ; KuiLmroa, 3 ; and Rangniri, 1. KUrLW Cor.Mn. — Divided into five ridings Ouewhero riding ; Te Akui ridiug ; Karioi riding comprises the highway distncts of Karioi and Whaingaroa ; Pirongia ridmg; and the Whangape riding. The Ouewheio riding returns 1 member to the County Council, Te Akui, 1 ; Karioi, 1 ; Pirongia, 2 ; and Whangapp, 1. \\ vi pa County is divided into five ridings. Newcastle riding comprises the highway districts of Ngaruawahia and .Newcastle township. Hamilton riding compiise*s the Hamilton Township West highway distnet, and the Hamilton highway district. Mangapiko riding comprises the Mangapiko North highway district, Mangapiko South district, and the Alexandra Township highway district. Rangiawhia riding comprises the Rangiawhia highway district. Pukekura riding comprises tho highway dis trie t of the same name. Newcastle riding returns to the County Council I member ; Hamilton, 3 ; Mangapiko, 3 ; Rangiawhia, 2 ; and Pukekura, 1. Taub\N(}\ County is divided into four ridings. Katikati riding comprises the settlement of that name ; Tauranga riding ; Maketu ridtng.and Rotorua riding Katikati riding leturns 1 member to the County Council ; Tauranga, 3 ; Maketu, 2 ; and Rotorua, 1. Piako County is dirided into four ridings. Waitoa ridmg comprises the Waitoa highway district. Matamata riding comprises the M*t»mat» highway d stnct Taotaoroa riding comprises the highway district of that name, *nd the Patetere ruling comprises the rest of the county. Waiton, riding returns 3 members to the County Council ; Matamata riding, 2 ; Taotaoroa, 2 ; and Patetere, 1 . Th\.mf*< County is divided into five ridings. Waiotahi riding comprises the highway district of that name. Kauaeranga riding compiises tVie highway district of that name Parawai riding, same boundaries as the highway district of that name, Hastings riding, and the Ohinemuri riding ; in the last two no highway districts have been formed Waiotahi riding returns 2 members to the County Council ; Kauaeranga riding, 1 ; Parawai, 1 ; Hastings, 1 ; and Ohinemuri, 2 Cook Couxtv is divided into five ridings. Waiapu riding returns 1 member to the County Council ; Waitemata riding returns 2 membeis ; Gisborne riding, which comprises the Poverty Bay highway district, re turns 2 ; and the Te Arai riding returns 1. The counties of Mangonui, Hokianga, Coro mandel, Wangarei, Kawhia, Whakatane, and West Taupo have not yet been divided The delay is principally due to the great care with which Mr. Heale is doing the work After a scale of division has been ariauged in the office, the proposed sub-di-ision is generally submitted to some of the leading people in the district concerned ; and when their approval or suggestions are received and considered, the boundaries of the several ndmgs are then finally fixed. In all cases the number of members allowed to bo returned by each riding to the County Council has been fired upon the basis of population. The municipalities of Auckland and the Thames have not been included in any of the ridings.
