Wishing to pay his friend a compliment, a fcntlenian remarked : " I hear you have a x cry imlustrioua * ife " ' ' * es, 'replied the friend with a melancholy sinile, "shes never idle. She's always finding something lor me to do." The women of the old town of Anjou are eelebiatcd for their art 111 folding hneu. The renown is an odd one, but it has, nevertheless, bestowed no mean celebrity on the 1 idics of Anjou. The art does not now Ho-msli as it used, and is, indeed, nearly confined to the gnud old housekeepers of the K rand old chateaux of the place. The linen presses of a mamuficent old gothic hospital still show somcTchefs d'cemie of the kind. The good sistera throw open the doors of their immense cupboards with a natural feeling of pride, and reve.il to the astonishment "and admiration of the visitors the wonders of their dexterity. In a va9t sheet, folded into a trough, twenty-four sheep, formed of chemises, are drinking, finidcd by a night-dress m the form of a shepherd, and su on. Linen cities, windmills towers, and abbesses are frequent torn-, de foiee of these dexterous linen foldeis. . ,, , Astonishing : Is it nofc astonishing tnat men, who hive the whole world to conquer, will bother their great heads with the t -htnessot a woman's akirt? How about your stove pine hat ? They make yovuluadsM bald -and greasy a3 4 a dishcloth, but you wear them. At a recent spelling match, one man speR it "pasnip," and got beet.
