Drunkenness. — Minnie Burlie and John Morgan, wero dealt with usual for this offence. Absent Without Leave. — Edward Hayes and Robert Binmore, seamen, absent without leave from H.M. ship ' Barracouta,' were remanded fo^one week. Assault.— Martiu O'Brien was charged on summons with assaulting Terence Donnelly.— There was no appearance of the defendant, and as Mr. Tyler stated that he was sorry for the offence., the case was withdrawn. Failing to Support Children. — Matthew Carrol was charged with failing to pay £3 13s. Cd. due for the support of his child in the Industrial School; ordered to pay 10a. at once, and 15s. a month.— Stephen Home, whose arrears amounted to £4, was ordered to pay 10s. on Monday, and £2 per month, till the debt was liquidated.— Eliza Rice was similarly charged; her arrears amounting to £8 12s. 6d. Defendant stated that as she had been in Mount Eden, she had not been able to pay. The Bench said that if the payments in future were made regularly the arrears would not be pressed for. He was under the influence of drink at the time. — Mr. Tyler addressed the Court at great length for the defence. — Prisoner was discharged on paying the' value of the pin, and the expenses of hearing the case. , Abusive Language. — Henry Schumaker appeared on summons charging him wiih using abusive language . to Mr. Neville Thornton.— Mr. Keetley appeared for the defendant. — The complainant and two witnesses deposed to the language being used. — Defendant was examined ; he positively denied the whole affair. — i he Bench ordered him to find two sureties to keep the peace for three months, and to pay the costs, £2 4s. 6d. Assault.— George AH ween, first mate of the ' Dilpussund,' was charged, on remand, with having violently assaulted Andrew Peters, an A.B. on board the same vessel. — Mr. Kissling appeared for the prisoner, and Mr. Laishley for the prosecution. — Mr. Kissling applied for the withdrawal of the information, as the prosecutor was willinp, and prisoner would pay the costs. — The Bench agreed to this, and prisoner was discharged with a severe reprimand. — This was all the business.
