Monarch. — Crushed| 18] tons for 24oz. 17dwt. of gold ; ■which, with the 20 oz. from the specimens, makes 44oz. 17dwt., and yet the return is not payable, in consequ ence of the delays and expense of getting the stuff down. Other parties in same locality (the head of the Waiotahi) who have quartz out are deterred by the expense from forwarding it. A road is much wanted. The shareholders of the Smile of Fortune claim, Ohinemuri, met to- day, and formed a company, with a capital of £10,000, in £1 shares : 2,160 shares were reserved. The directors are Messrs James, Steward, Adam Porter, Gellion, Noble, and Arnold. Mr. Turnbull, the mine manager, is instructed to proceed with operations at once. A boy, named William Brown, was severely" injured to-day, by a kick in the groin from a pony which he was mounting. COROMANDEL, Friday. Royal Oak. — The manager reports stoping and driving on No. 1, with a fair show for the future, the leader having improved considerably during the week, and more gold seen in it than for some time past. In the right-hand branch of No. 3, the stoping has been continued without anything important to note, except that the leader is stronger, and carries a large quantify of mineral, which is evidence of gold being near at hand. The contractora started in the low level, but the progress is slow, owing to the preparatory workings. Tokate\. — The manager reports making preparations for letting the low level by contract, and expects to be ready in three weeks time. The country in No. 1 rise of the Van level is becoming harder, and have to use lithofracteur instead of powder. The leader here seems very large at present, and is looking well, showing large blotches of gold when broken down Nothing impoitant lias occurred in the Siege level during the week. Sent a quantity of quartz to the company's battery, and expect to forward more during next week. There is a great improvement in the leader in the Excelsior level. Union Beach. — A small parcel of specimens were taken to-day from the stopes towards the west end. Black Rues 1 Company. — Rapidly going down with shaft, and expect to cut the Black [reef on the west side of the Union Beach shaft very shortly. A man named Waldmg broke his leg today. Dr. Hovell attended, and the patient is going on favourably.

Hen;eaut Munyanl made the head score with a total of 1S1 points ; Volunteer Stonebridge, 180; Sergeant Chamberlain, 178 ; Volunteer Simmons, 175 ; Volunteer Gorrie, 173. At 400 yards Gorrie scored six bulls-eyes and one centre, or 27 out of a possible 28 points.
