PANMURE.

[The following official lepoit was intended for our columns of Tuosdiy l.iit, find it was so maikcd on the copy. Our contempoiary, tho Herald, obtained the copy find omitted to send it to iu. The reason of thii omission ■we weie unable last night to obtain —possibly it will be received to-day.] Tho annual meeting for the election of a School Committee foi the cunent yeir was held at tho school-room on Friday evening last ; Mi. Mitchell iu the ch lir. Contrary to the usual custom on the3e occasions, greit inteiost nn shown in the nutter, a \eiy luge niunbei of parents and others being piesent. The folio wreport w.13 read and adopted : " Gentlemen, — That season has now arrived at which it becomes our duty to render you an account of our proceedings in the year that has passed. During that time the number of children oa the roll has greatly increased. Wheieas, ai the close of the preceding year, tho total number on the books was but 71, it is now 125, and while the attendance for tho year before averaged 52, the average for the past year has been 09. Tin* average will, no doubt, appear small when compared with the number on the loll. This i> greatly owin ,' to the fact that nearly cveiy child in tho ih»tucfc has, at some period of the ycaf, suffered fiom the measles. This, an may be iiui^ine.I, has had a considerable effect in i educing tho avomgp for iU« year. -— At the aim*- iiui-*, oui iverage cannot be expected to compare %o favourably with the number on tho roll as in the case of town schools, harvest time reducing fie attendance to about one half. The accom modation afforded by the present school pi eniises having beenconsideiedby your committee to be insufficient for tho requirements of the school in consequence of the above-named (increa&e in numbers, application w.n made to the Central Board for funds to raiso a new and more commodious building. This application, we regret to say, eould not bo entertained -it present in consequence of the want of fun-la at head-quarters, but a promise was obtained ot consideration of the request when the necessary funds are forthcoming. Since you lcceive.l your last annual report, Mrs. Duugate hid leplaced Mia* Vialoux, resigned, as assistant teacher, and ha» given eveiy satisfaction. In conclusion, your committee would endeavour to impie«< upon heads of families tho necessity of keeping th-m children regular in their attend mco at slIiuoI ; 1 knowledge is power ' ha3 lo.ig been an acknowledged truth." — Mr. Ireland tlun piopo3ed that tho f blowing gentleman be elected a3 a School Committee for the current year :— Mes3re. C. Roberts, McPheison, Cawkwell, Cleiiy, .".i.l Wyllie."— Mr. Loomb hecondei the proposition, which w*s canijd without a dissontient vaice. —The accounts for tho past year were piesented, when it was found that there was a deficiency of 8s. 3d.— Mr. Cleary moved, "That a vote of thanks bo presented to Mr. G. Iielmd, chairmin of tho retiring committee, for the lively interest he has always taken in school matteis, he only now being debarred from taking as active »pait as ever by his intention of shortly taking u tiip to England." — This motion was seconded by Mr. Wyllis, and carried unanimously. — Mr. "Wyllie moved, and Mr. Cleary seconded, a vote of thanks to the Chairman, which was also carried, and the meeting dispersed. — A meeting of the newly-elected committee was susbequently htld, at which Mr. C. Roberts was elected Chaiiinan, and Mr. McPheison, Sejietaiy ai.d Ticasuiu. It is very gratifying to lemaik the humonious mur.iei in whioh nemliLi-i of tV \ nious denominations woiktogethei iu the luttrest of our distiict school, which is a gicat boon to the neighboxnhood.— [CoiTespondeht.]
