SUDDEN DEATHS.

A younu inau named Mackenzie, at work on board the schooner • Chaiybdis,' fell down yesterday^ while engaged in heaving up the anchor and in a few minutes was dead. On the water-police being acquainted with the fact every exertion was made to obtain medical attendance, and the services of Dr. Dawson were at length secured. On seeing the deceased he at once pronounced life extinct. The body was then taken charge of by Sergeant Martin of the Water Police, and conveyed to the Deadhouse in Freeman's Bay to await tho inquest, to be held to-day at 2 o'clock. Tho deceased was formerly the master of the three-masted schooner ' Kairlie,' and second mate of the ' East Lothian,' and was woll known, his good conduct securing him the appreciation of all he came in contact with. The supposed cause of death is heart disease. A man named James Webbley, the keeper of a small shep at the corner of Nelson and Wellesley streets died rather suddenly yesterday afternoon at about half-past one o'clock, lie was &ei<ud with cramps in the legs a little after midnight and gradually sank. It was not deemed necessary to summon a doctor to his aid, and his death was as sudden as it was unexpected. Dr. Hooper was summoned during the afternoon, and pronounced life extinct. Deceased was about 50 years' of age. He leaves a widow who has two sons by a former husband, but it is to be feared that she is not adequately provided for. An inquest on the remains will probably be held to-day.
