McLaughlin. , The first annual show of this association commenced on Friday, September 10,and was con- ; tiiuied on Saturday in the western wing of the Market. A similar show was hold last year [ under different auspices, but the fact of its , having taken place enabled visitors to make comparisons as to the improvement or othcr- '. wise of the character of the exhibits now and then. On the whole, the rerdict was de- ' cidedly in favour of the present, creditable to the city as was the former. Shows of this ', kind are always popular if at all well managed, and this has been placed under the direction of Mr. W. Percival — we need say i no more, therefore, as to the management. Poultry. — The judges for poultry were Messrs. William Payne, F. H. Eyre, aud ' W. J Marks. In this department the first prizes were a guinea and the second prizes halt a guinea. Class 1, game, black red : Messrs. Gillard, Sain Morrin, James " Hewlett, H. Keane, John Abbott, John Young, J. Kelly ; Mr. Sam Morrin carried off the first prize, Mr Gillard the second ; both exhibits were very fine, the difference in merit depending upon the "cleanness" of the legs. Class 2, game, brown red : Mr. G. Clark ; no prize was awarded for this class. Class 3, game, duck wing : Mr. Gillard j this gained a first prize. Class 4, game, any other variety : Messrs. Oillott, John Abbott, J. Burtt (Indian jungle game) ; a second prize was awarded to Mr. John Abbott. Class f>, game, any variety, single cock : Messrs. fiillard, John Abbott, G. Cruickshank ; a very handsome jbird of Mr. John Abbott's took a first prize in this class. Class G, game any variety, single hen : Mr. John Abbott, two entries; a "blue game" lien was very noteworthy, but no prize was awarded to these. Class 7, Malay: For this class there were no entries. Class 8, Dorkings, silver grey : Mr. Samuel Morrin ; a first prize was awarded to this splendid couple. Class 9, Dorkings, coloured : Mr. James Wallace, two entries : a second prize was deservedly gained by Mr. James Wallace. Class 10, Dorkings, white : Messrs. Morrin and Ivey, and W. Ferguson ; Messrs. Morrin and Ivey were adjudged the firstprize, Mr. Ferguson tho second — all were princely birds. Class 11, Spanish, black : Messrs. J. Blomfield,P.Maaon, A. E. Isaacs, Thos. Steadman ; Mr. Blomfield gained the first prize for a couple of real dons 9 and 10 months old, the second prize was gained by Mr. Isaacs for a pair of almost equal stateliness. Class 12, Spanish, white : No entry. Class 13, Cochins, buff : No entry. Class 14, Cochins, cinnamon : No entry. Class^ 15, Cochins, white : Messrs Morrin and Ivey ; these I wore splendid birds, but no prize was adjudged to them ; they were prize-winners at the Christchurch Show lately. Class 10, Hrahmas, dark: Messrs. Edward Wood, two entries (one 10 months old), Messrs. Thomas Morrin, T. H. Ivey, J. Reid, two entries, K. C. Greenwood, A. E. Isaacs ; Mrs. Edward Wood carried off the first prize with two gigantic birds, Mr. T. H. Ivey gained the seoond prize; all the exhibits in this class were very fine. Class 17, Brahmas, light : Mr. E. Grattan. Class 18. Brahmas, any variety : Mr. A. E. Isaacs, six months old ; this was a bird of great promise. Class 19, Golden-pencilled ! Hamburgs : No entry. Class 20, Silver- ' pencilled Hamburgs : No entry. Class 21, Golden-spangled Hamburgs : Messrs. Morrin and Ivoy ; a second prize was awarded to this very perfect pair. Class 22, Silverspangled Hamburgs : Messrs. W. H. Kissling, ] Henry Atkinson ; Mr. Atkinson took a second j prize. Class 23, golden polish: No entry. Class *4, silver polish : No entry. Class 25, ; La Fleche : No entry. Class 5G, houdens : 1 Mrs. Edward Wood, three entries, two 8 1 months old ; Mrs. Edward Wood received ] first and and second prizes. Class 27, Creve i Cu-ur : Messrs. Sain Morrin, W. H. Kiss- r ling ; Mr. Morrin's superb birds gained a first J prize. Class 28, barndoors : No entry. t

Class 35, Any other variety of bantams: Mr. Goodacre. Class 3fi, Aylesbury ducks : No entry. Class 37, Rouen ducks : No entry. Class 38, Indian ducks : Mr. W. H. Kissling ; a second prize was awarded to Mr. Kissling. Class 39, any other variety of ducks : No entry. Class 30, Toulouse geese : No entry. Class 41, any other variety of geese: Mr. T. Kelly ; with these were shown a couple of very large eggs. Class 42, turkeys : Mr. J. Wallace ; these noble looking birds deservedly gained a first prize. Pro eons.— Judges : Messrs. Thomas Macffarlane and Hammerton. The first prizes for pigeons were 15s., the second 5s. Class 43, carriers, English : Mr. Henry Brett, two entries ; these received a first and second prize respectively. Class 44, carriers, Antwerps: Messrs. Reed and Brett, two entries ; Mr. Charles Chappell ; these are some of the best carriers belonging to the Evenunj Slav office, but they were awarded, no pri7e. Class 45, tumblers, almond : Mr. Joseph Craig, Mr. E. R. Ward ; Mr. Joseph Craig gained a first prize for some remarkablelooking birds. Class 4fi, tumblers, shortfaced : Mr. T. H. Ivey.Mr. E. R. Ward ; Mr. Ward received first prize, Mr. Ivcy second. Class 47, fautails : Mr. Joseph Craig (blue fantails), Mr. Thomas Craig (blue f.mtails), Mr. A. Stodarfc, two entries (white fantails), Mr. W.C.Arthur", three entries(whiteand bluefantails), Mr. C. Owen (blue fantails). Mr. John Parker (while fantails) ; Mr. W. C. Arthur obtained the first prize for a splendid pair of blue fantails ; a. very pretty pair of white fantails won the second prize for Mr. A. Stodart. Class 48, Pouters : Messrs Joseph Craig, (black), W. C. Arthur, John Parker, Andrew Parker : Mr. John Parker gained first pri7c with a grandly obese pair ; Mr. Andrew Parker second. Class 49, Jacobins: Messrs. Joseph Craig, two entries, John Smyth ; Mr. Craig's perfect pair gained a first prize. Class 50, barbs : Messrs. E. R. Ward, W. C. Arthur. Class 51, balds and beards : Messrs Joseph Craig, W. C Arthur, two entries, John Parker ; Mr. Parker took first and Mr. Craig second prize. Class 52, nuns : Mr. W. C. Arthur. Class 53, owls : Messrs. Joseph Craig, E. R. Ward, two entries (blue and siluer). Class 54, any other variety : Messrs. E. Hill (red mottled tumblers), John Parker (trumpeters) ; Mr. Hill's really beautiful birds took a second prize. Canaries. — Judges : Messrs. W. J. Marks, P. H. Eyre, and W. Payne. Class 55, Belgians : Messrs. J. Duane, W. Eyre ; Mr. Diiane took a first prize. Class 56, cros3 Belgians : No entry. Class 57, Norwich clear yellow : Mr. E. Robinson ; tills was highly commended. Class 58, Norwich buff : Mr. A. E. Isaacs ; thi3 gained a first prize. Class 59, yellow variegated : Mr. A. E. Uaacs ; to this was awarded a second prize. Class CO, bufl' variegated : No entry. Eyre also exhibited a splendid mule, but not for competition. Miscellaneous Birds. — Class 65, best parrot, paroquet, or cockatoo : Messrs. W. Head (parrot), McCaslem (cockatoo), E. Perkins (cockatoo), C.J.O wen (cockatoo); Mr. Owen's cockatoo gained a first prize. Class 66, magpies, and any other variety of foreign birds : Messi-s. G. IT. Fletcher (magpie), W. Stanton (magpie), R. f*. Sandall (m.igpie), A. Lewes (elegants). Rabbits. — Judges: T)r. Home and Mr. Thomas Macffarhine. Class 67, French rabbits : Messrs. George Cam well (1 rabbit), Charles Bartley (doe and young and buck^ two entries, A. Morlens (buck), Miss Snllivan (rabbits); Mr. Camwell gained first prize with a magnificent creature, and Mr. Bartley the second for the buck. Class 68, lop-eared : Mr. G. Clarke (doe) ; this was awarded a second prize. Class 69, auy other variety of rabbits : No entry. For Exhibition only. — Mr. James Wallace's silver grey dorking, .Mr. McLeary's guinea-pigs, Mr. Thomas Barrett's guineapip (1 young), Mr. Morriii a pen of very fine fowls. Cats. — Judges : Dr. Home and Mr. Thomas Macffarlane. Class 70 : Mrs. Scaley's torn cat, Mr. Pcikins's torn cats Ned Perkins and Teddy Perkins ; Mrs. Sealey gained the first prize with a beautiful white and tabby ; Mr. Perkins's were mysteriously labelled as " cock and hen." Spouting Dogs. —Judges : Messrs Bonar, Naden, and Hammer tou. Class 71, greyhounds, dogs: Mr. E. G. Collins's Fly (2 years), Mr. Samuel Morrin's Eos (imported) ; Mr. Morrin took first, and Mr. Collins second prize. Class 72, greyhounds, bitches : Mr. J. Reid, Dr. Wright's Moose, Mr. S. Morrin's Beauty (7 months) — by Red Rover, imported by Mr. Renwick ; bred by — Jardine ; his sire was Fusilier, out of Spare Rib; by Butcher Boy, out of Miss York ; Butcher Boy by Canaradzo, out of Harmony, own sister to Patent ; Miss York by Cardinal York, out of White Lady of Avenel, by Canaradzo ; Mr. W. Class 76, setters, Gordon : Mr. Furlong's Bruce, Mr. " Hillman's Sultan, Mr. Aitkin's, two entries; Bruce took first and Sultan second prize. Class 77> setters, Irish': Mr. Richard Simpson's Slut, Mr. E. H. Bliindell's Scrip, Mr. F. Crow's Flo (pups). Class 78, retrievers : Mr. H. King's slut, Carlo (4 years), Mr. G. Cran well's dog, Don, Mr. F. H. Eyre's Sambo (2 years); Carlo took a second prize. Class 79, spaniels, Clumber : Mr. Carpenter's slut Maude. Class 80, Spaniels, Sussex : Mr. R. Barnsley's slut Fan.
