NOTES FROM WANGAREI.
A Wamiakei correspondent writes: — "A meeting of the electoral district was called by advertisement for the 17th instant, to take into consideration the advisability of having a portion of the Waiigarei district declared a township. The "electoral district" did not ui.iko its appearance, but a mnnlwr of persons rosiding in the village attended, and also a number of country settlers, who ■eeined to wish to take the matter into their own hands, although they resided quite beyond the boundary, and had about as much right to interfere in thia matter as they have to dictate in the affairs of the city of Auckland. It was asserted by those who advised tho calling of the meeting that more power for preserving law and order would be got by this conversion, and a committee was appointed to got a plan made, showing tho proposed boundary. Mr. Kyburn told the meeting that no power could be obtained by any such process. — A meeting of the olectors, called by Sir It. Douglas, M. 1\C\, was afterwards held, to give him the opportunity of answering any questionsth.it might he naked an to his sayings and doing* in the Council. About 12 poraons were picient."
