MAUKU : ABOLITION OF PROVINCES AND LOCAL SELF-GO-VERNMENT BILLS.

Crispe, to bo held on Wednesday last ; but, on account of insufficient i.oticu having been given, only one or two attended. It was, therefore, thought dosi ruble, in order to get n good meeting, to adjourn the same until Saturday, the 28th inst. — The adjourned meeting of electors of Franklin district was hold on Saturday, in the Volunteer Hall, Patuniirfioe ; Henry W. Hill, K«j., wan called to the chair. The chairman in opening the mooting, and after reading the notice convening the same, remarked that, on an occasion of this kind, every elector should have an opportunity of speaking ; but ho begged each gentleman to be very careful to speak to the point, and, M the subject was a very important one, and one that would most probably affect the residents in New Zealand for many future years, to discuss the subject in a quiet, deliberate manner. — Mr. Hay wood Crispo, after some introductory remarks, moved tho following resolution: " That it ib the opinion of this meeting that it in desirable tho House of Bepreseutatives delay passing the Abolition of Provinces and other bills now before the House until a new Parliament is elected, so as to give the electors mi opportunity of iIihuushuu; the matter."— Ths resolution wanted * seconder. — Mr. James Pinlay, jun., then rose, and also making some remarks on the merit* of tho bill, said he proponed to move an amendment to tho resolution just proposed by Mr. Crispe. The Amendment wan as follows :— "That this meeting considers tluvt now i» tli© proper time for abolition, and rcijuoHts the chairnmn to write to thuir members in the House of Representatives, and ask them to do thoir utmost t* abolish the provinces at once."— Mr. W. J. Costello seconded Mr. Fmlay'a amendment. — On a •how of hands being called for by the chairman, the amendment was carried almost unanimously, only ono of all thoao present being in favour of Mr. Crisne's original motion.— A vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a closo.— [Own correHpomtent. ] _____««_—
