Drunkknnkks. — John Kelly, Martin Walsh, l)avid Mills, Mary Jiigham, John Austin, John Edwards, and John Moouey, wcro lined 10s. each uud couts ; Henry Quigley forfeited his bail, and Isaac Taylor was lined 20s. and costs. Vagrancy.— Edward Bryan and William Young were charged with being unlawfully on unenclosed ground, the property of Mr. Hsccouibo, at Ponsonby. They wero romauded till to-day, to give time to the police for making enquiries.— Eliza McGinn. for being drunk and disorderly, was fined 20b. and costs, with the alternative of fortyeight hours' imprisonment ; for being an incorrigible vagabond she was sentenced to be imprisoned for eighteen months with haul labour. A charge of breaking a window was withdrawn. (Jity Bye-laws.— Thomas Bowden was charged with leaving his hookuey carriage unattended.— Mr. Kissling appearod for defendant, and pleaded not guilty. — Constable Axom deposed that there w«re two carriages together to the north of Vulcan-lane ; there were several other carriages on the cab-stand to the south of Vulcan-lane; there was a man left in charge of one of the two carriages, lmt the defendant's was unattended. — James Cemlo, cab-diiver, deposed that he wot in ehargo of one of the cabs and defendant asked him to look to his. Defendant's was a hansom, and the reins were within reach of witness. He could easily have stopped the horse if it had moved. - Thomas Waters, cabman, could not say that anyone was in charge of defendant's cab ; bnt the last witness was in such a position that he could have stopped defendant's horse. — The Court was soeptioal as to whether one man could take core of two vehicles. — Inspector Broham could not understand how the charge could be defended. One man could not attend to the horses of two cabs.— The costs being considerable, the Court imposed the nominal penalty of Is. and costs.
