THE PROGRESS OF TUAKAU.

On*, con espondent wntes as follows on the 23rcl instant ■ — On the 27th of last month the School Inspector was hero, but, the mastci being absent, no inspection of the school took place — A two-horse thieshmg machine, fiom Wainku, has been m the di->-tnct threshing several of the faimcis' uops, but, as it hail not a clea\ er with it, I am unable to say how much per aue tlioy yielded. At all event's, all w ho employed it appear to be satisfied. The w heat is of (me quality. Nearly all our f.vi inui s have enough for their own use, which is very giatifymg. It is a shame, with our line wheat land, to see Hour coming into the settlement fiom Auckland. All wo want now is a Hour mill ; and, as we have plenty of water power close to the railway, I hope soon to see one erected, or added to one of our Hax mills Tuakau abounds in brooks, on which we has e four Hax mills. At piesent we have te send our wheat to Ngai uawahia to be ground, which is attended w ith a good deal of inconvenience and annoyance, consequent upon there being no building on the river bank where goods can be stoi cd for the sterner, and it has often happened, that flour and other goods have been landed on the bank in wet weather, and also laic m the evening. However, the railway will remedy all this.— The locomotive has got this far, and the works are being pushed on, so that in a few months we hope to see the line open for traffic. The sooner the better, for now we have to pay £4 a ton for can lage on goods from Auckland, which is a severe check to our progress. — While the threshing machine was here, two accidents happened. A young man, named Curry, the driver of the machine, got his foot ciushed ; and a little boy, son of Mr. Cooney, who, with other children, was playing about it, got two fingeis so much damaged, that Di . (Jorbett had to amputate one at the hi it joint. Both patients are m a lair w a\ of recovery undo the Doutoi's treatment
